“The Age Old Question” – a gift mini-fanfic by Haak [haakir AT yahoo.co.uk]

Haak sat outside Euri’s quarters, aboard the Infernus once more, as they made their final preparations for the trip to the wedding ceremony. By this point pretty much everything had been arranged, and it was simply a matter of getting there. That, and Euri was still getting herself ready. He wondered to himself whether girls really did take this long to prepare for big outings, or perhaps it was all part of one big joke on their male counterparts. There had to be some reason for such delays. After giving it hard thought, the only conclusion he came to was that he’d probably never figure it out, so he quickly turned his thoughts elsewhere.

The ship was just leaving Jupiter’s space, only having departed from Europa’s orbit mere minutes ago. He looked around for something to pass his time, noticing now more than ever how uncomfortable he was without his familiar suit of armour. Still, this was a particularly special occasion. He couldn’t recall being at the wedding of someone he knew as well as Minako or Dr Xadium…

“Wait a minute, I haven’t even been to a wedding before...” “HEY! I’ll be out soon, so stop complaining!”

Haak jerked back in surprise, not realising he’d said anything aloud. Quickly bringing himself back to reality, he soon established the voice that had answered him had been Euri, who was coming to the door. Haak looked at his watch – they were on schedule… just. The whole concept of attending a formal event such as this was completely alien to him, but he was fairly sure it helped to be punctual. Preparing to give Euri some overcomplicated, technology-related explanation as to why they had to hurry, and the fact that they should have been at the birdge nearly an HOUR ago, he stood up, and awaited her entrance.

The door opened, and upon seeing his girlfriend, Haak’s mind stalled. The vision that stood before him far surpassed any other thing of beauty he’d laid eyes on before. Euri walked towards him, a warm smile on her face. She seemed amused by the expression frozen on Haak’s face.

“Hii! What do you think? Do I look nice enough for the wedding?” “Uhwuh?”

“…Pardon?”

“…uhhuh.”

Euri giggled, blushing slightly. “I’ll take that as a yes, then.” She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. “Come on, we’re gonna be late if you hang around here too long.” The senshi of ice walked briskly away, motioning for her sworn protector to follow. Haak got up, and followed, his ability to speak eventually returning. “Yeah, I’m coming. The dress looks good on you… just try not to outshine the bride, though.” Euri grinned, took his hand, and they headed for the bridge, as the ship flew at full speed towards Earth once more.

So much for complaining about her taking ages getting ready.
