He's got a long list of accomplishments behind him-- ogre-slaying, leading an army against the corrupt uncle who seized his dead father's throne and winning, and all sorts of other things. He's in the service of a good friend of his late father's, and his Baron decides that he needs a wife.

He remembers that on one of his adventures, there was a sorcereress's daughter who looked after his injuries once upon a time, so he sets off over the sea to find her again.
[03:21] <@Yaijinden> Eventually he reaches her and is taken in as an honored guest, and meets the daughter-- Iseult-- again. Now that he's in his full regalia, she recognizes him and remembers that it was this Tristan guy who actually killed her uncle on some adventure years ago, tries to kill him, but is put off when Tristan flatters her. He's come across the sea in pursuit of a wonderous beauty, and has come to take her away... and, flattered, she accepts the offer and starts making preparations.

After they set off, though, Iseult learns that Tristan doesn't REALLY think that much of her aside from as a prize for his lord, gets utterly pissed, starts planning to kill him, but her plans and Tristan's all go awry when they both accidentally drink from the enchanted wine.
