[19:30] <Solarchos> I know that each world has a Planetary Governor who is put in office through any number of means. Usually it's hereditary, but I've heard of a few worlds that actually practice a kind of representative democracy and elect the Governor for varying terms of office.
[19:31] <@Raihosha> All right, let's do a thought experiment. If the emperor were actively ruling, he'd have to give orders to sector leaders who then give orders to provicial leaders who then give orders to others down to a planetary level.
[19:32] <@Raihosha> Most organizations usually have a span of about five. ie the emperor gives orders to five subordinates who give orders to each of their five subordinates until you get to the planetary governors.
[19:32] <Solarchos> I do know that at one point during the Great Crusade the Emperor returned to Terra to set about creating the Administratum. He wanted to create a civilian-managed interstellar administration service that would make sure everything worked properly. And yes, he appointed one of his closest friends, Malcador the Sigillite, as the head of the Administratum.
[19:34] <@Raihosha> You'd need at least 10 levels of bureaucracy. that's 8 levels between the Emperor and a governor.
[19:35] <Solarchos> I'm not sure exactly how many people make up the High Lords of Terra, but I do know that are at least four of them : the Master of the Administratum, the Lord Commander Militant, the Fabricator-General of the Mechanicus, and the Inquisitorial Representative.
[19:36] <Solarchos> And as for how many levels of subordinates, I have no idea. I'm not entirely certain *they* know. Except maybe the Inquisition.

[20:23] <Solarchos> Unfortunately, since Metazoid Prime was a Chaos-held world, the Chaos taint had infected the robofac. All of the robots it began manufacturing ( and it churned out Men of Iron at a rate of one every couple of minutes, too ) were both horribly deformed and completely homicidal.
[20:24] <Solarchos> As for the Men of Stone I don't know exactly what they were, but just going by the name alone they might have been something like magically animated golems.
[20:26] <David O`Cain> Hmm.
[20:26] <Solarchos> And yeah, the STC robofac on Metazoid Prime had been sitting there since the Age of Strife, at least 16000 years. And after all that time it, and the hundreds of deactivated robots held nearby, were still fully operational. Good thing Gaunt managed to blow them all up.

[20:27] <@Raihosha> Well, the name itself IS reminiscent of the classic Golem.
[20:27] <Solarchos> David - Destroyed. Although, if it had been corrupted by Chaos then that was probably a good thing.

[20:30] <Solarchos> The story happened fairly recently, too. Just a couple of years ago, but it started over a 100 on a Forge World called Chaeroneia.

[20:31] <Solarchos> A high-ranking TechnoMagos had been sent to the Chaeroneia Forge-world to investigate rumors of a techno-heresy cult. What he found out was that the entire upper-tier leadership of the planet had instigated the whole thing.

[20:32] <Solarchos> The Magos, his name was Antigonus by the way, was discovered by the "powers that be" and hunted down before he could get the word out.

[20:35] <Solarchos> Antigonus was discovered, cornered, and got the crap beaten out of him. Much to his luck he had been cornered in a forgotten section of the Forge-world : a room containing a bunch of ancient, advanced data modules.

[20:36] <Solarchos> In a last act of pure desperation, Antigonus connected one of his mechadendrites to the datacore behind him and started download every scrap of information he had into it in the hopes that a follow-up investigator might find it.
[20:37] <Solarchos> Well...Antigonus downloaded more than just his report. A *lot* more. Not sure how he did it, either through his desperation or some kind of side-effect of the AI techno-virus that had been downloaded into his cyber-systems, but he transfered his entire consciousness into the machine.

[20:39] <Solarchos> Not long after his physical body had been killed Chaeroneia disappeared. The cult had somehow managed to cause the whole world to fall into the Warp, where it stayed for over a hundred years. When it returned, the Forge-world had been changed drastically and from their standpoint almost 900 years had past.
[20:39] <David O`Cain> S[BLEEP]t. Talk about getting more than you bargained for.
[20:39] <Solarchos> ^passed.
[20:40] <Solarchos> Antigonus turned out to be alive, too. He later found out that for a long time his consciousness had been fragmented and rendered dormant, then gradually over the course of several hundred years it came back together and he "woke up".

[20:41] <Solarchos> From that point on he was basically a ghost in the machine, able to transfer himself into any operating machine he wanted to : servitors, computer-control vehicles, even a Warhound titan.

[20:43] <Solarchos> Later on, when the Inquisition finally took control of the whole situation, they analyzed Antigonus extensively. They found no trace of any Chaos taint, even though Chaeroneia had been completely dominated by Chaos for almost a 1000 years.

[20:44] <Solarchos> So, somehow Antigonus had managed to keep his personality virtually intact. Don't know how, though. Personally, I think it was more of a fluke than anything else.
