[07:18] <Springfield> And yes, I was in it. I was one of the invaders who got beaten up by the Gensokyo girls in one of the initial charges. :P
[07:18] <Springfield> Anything to help little Natalia feel a little better while she was sick.
[07:24] <Springfield> With that in mind, I'm going to do a little presentation that was requested by someone a while back.
[07:25] * Springfield pulls over a portable stove from offscreen, upon which there's already a frying pan and a cutting board.
[07:25] <Springfield> TUNA STEAKS!!!
[07:26] <Springfield> What some people here know, but most don't, is that the Governor-Militant is actually a fairly skilled cook. He's known how to cook for a long time. He calls it a "necessary survival skill".
[07:27] <Springfield> I think it's just interesting.
[07:29] * Springfield has all the ingredients she needs, including a piece of raw tuna steak, ready for cooking.




[07:30] <Springfield> I'm going to go by the method the Govenor-Militant uses the most.
[07:30] <Springfield> First, make certain your preparation area is clean. That's a given.
[07:32] <Springfield> Next, check your frying pan. Put in just a LITTLE olive oil. Extra virgin is best. By "a little" I mean one or two teaspoons. Use a spatula to spread it around the interior of the pan so that there's an even, thin coat on the bottom.
[07:33] <Springfield> Next, take your tuna and slice it in half thickness-wise. So instead of one piece of fish, you'll have TWO thinner pieces.
[07:34] <Springfield> While you're cutting the fish, set your burner on medium-high heat. Two-thirds is optimal. Start heating up the pan.
[07:36] <Springfield> When the fish is halved and the pan is heated up, place both halves in the pan. The now-heated oil will cling to the underside of the meat and help ensure that all areas are evenly cooking.
[07:37] <Springfield> Cutting the meat in half thickness-wise will make it easier to ensure that it cooks all the way through.
[07:38] <Springfield> Keep a close eye on it as it cooks, because it WILL cook quickly.
[07:40] <Springfield> Three to five minutes after you first start cooking it, take that spatula and flip the tuna over. Start cooking that other side. Make sure you've placed it in a part of the pan that has that nice film of oil in it.
[07:40] <Springfield> You want to make that oil work for you.
[07:41] <Springfield> As you can see, one side of the meat will have taken on a light brownish-grey color. That's what you want.
[07:41] <Springfield> And it's thin enough that you can see it's already cooking well into the center.
[07:42] <Springfield> After about three to five minutes of cooking, flip them over again.
[07:43] <Springfield> At this point, both sides of the meat will have gotten a decent amount of cooking, but you're not done yet!
[07:44] <Springfield> Keep cooking for about FIVE minutes. Keep the heat at medium-high. Keep a close watch to make sure nothing's burning.
[07:44] <Springfield> After cooking one side for five minutes, flip the steaks and cook the other side for another five minutes.
[07:46] <Springfield> Total cooking time should be about twenty minutes from start to finish.
[07:47] <Springfield> Both sides of the steaks should receive a total of ten minutes of cooking each. And being thinner, the meat will have cooked more thoroughly.
[07:47] <Springfield> It should have a color like this...




[07:48] <Springfield> But the texture will be just a little oily due to the olive oil cooking medium. That's what you want, though!
[07:50] <Springfield> Extra-virgin olive oil has a lot of health benefits, including being an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and helps with managing blood sugar.
[07:52] <Springfield> Take your finished steaks out of the pan and season to your preference. The Governor-Militant typically uses onion powder, lemon pepper, and black pepper.
[07:53] <Springfield> The steaks ARE a little small, but they're perfectly sized for sides! Add in steamed rice, vegetables, beans, or whatever you have a craving for.
[07:54] <Springfield> And you're good to go.
[07:54] <Springfield> ^____^
[08:01] <Springfield> Go out and try it for yourself. Cooking for yourself not only helps sidestep some of the expense of eating out, but cooking can actually be a form of stress relief.
[08:01] <Springfield> And it's good to practice a useful skill.
