[07:35] <Kaga> I do find the traditional Japanese ritual of the tea ceremony to be highly enjoyable.
[07:38] <Kaga> Have you ever had the opportunity to attend one? It's a unique experience.
[07:39] <Kaga> As a formal ceremony, one is first invited.
[07:39] <Kaga> They're not active affairs. Rather, they're very quiet and reserved, meant to establish an aura of deep calm and tranquility.
[07:43] <Kaga> After the invitations are sent, the host has to assemble and prepare the room and tools that will be used.
[07:43] <Kaga> Once the guests arrive, they're welcomed and served some sweets.
[07:46] <Kaga> Don't just eat them right away. Wait to be offered. And don't wait too long to have some, either. Once the water for the tea is boiled, it will soon be time for the tea.
[07:49] <Kaga> When the water is almost ready, the host will purify the tools that will be used with a cloth and water. Purifying the bowls is especially important since they're central to the next step.
[07:50] * Kaga kneels down, and a whole set of traditional tea-making tools have been conveniently laid out. Kaga came prepared for this.
[07:50] * Kaga 's normally stoid, Kuudere expression has been replaced with one of genuine enjoyment.
[07:51] * Kaga has the clayware bowls, one for drinking and the other containing a green powder. There's also the wooden spoon and tea whisk.

[07:53] * Kaga puts a couple spoonfuls of the powder into an empty bowl, pours in hot water, and uses the wisk to mix it up into a thick solution.
[07:54] <Kaga> The first round of tea is a thick mix. The host will present each guest with their own bowl. The front of the bowl will be facing you.
[07:55] <Kaga> And the proper way to pick up the bowl is with your right hand, and then support it with your left hand, palm up.
[07:56] <Kaga> You must then bow once and raise the tea bowl to the host in thanks.
[07:56] <Kaga> Then, rotate the bowl clockwise...

[07:57] <Belfast> The hospital where Natalia is currently residing is a null-mana facility. A mana shadow generator encloses the place, eliminating ALL mana within the property. Unpleasant for mages and creatures that naturally use it, but very necessary for treatment.

Rapid-scale jump drive, interplanetary travel measured in days or so, defensive shields, energy weapons, the like. They seemed to have completely eschewed artificial intelligence in all ways, though. Oh well.
[20:47] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> They encountered an alien race that declared war on them almost immediately, and this led to ove 40 years of non-stop war in deep space and on the ground.
[20:48] <Hazel Ninegate> Artificial Intelligence is usually anything but intelligent.
[20:49] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> The war forced the Terrans to advance their technology by leaps and bounds in order to counter the Kilrathi's numerical advantage and ferocity. Ultimately, the war ended when the Terrans completely destroyed the Kilrathi homeworld.
[20:50] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> With their homeworld gone, the fight left the Kilrathi, but all of that dedication and focus left the Terrans too.
[20:50] <Hazel Ninegate> Ahh, the Man-Kzin wars.
[20:50] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> The Terran Confederation began to fragment and break apart.
[20:53] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> And one of the heroes of that war, a man name Lord-Admiral Jeoffrey Tolwyn, somehow got it in his head that drastic steps needed to be taken in order to save Humanity from its own despondency. Sooooo, he came up with the great idea to activate a genetic enhancement program, develop bioweapons designed to kill 95% of a target population by terminating anyone whose DNA failed to meet a certain threshold, and instigate conflict.
[20:54] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> He wanted to start a war among Humanity so that only the strongest examples would survive and move forward.

[21:01] <Hazel Ninegate> Heh. It's what he deserved for not following through.
[21:02] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> The Terran Confederation DID fragment and come apart, primarily because cultural differences that had been buried during the war re-emerged, and underlying problems caused by the war could no longer be ignored. Ultimately, the outer worlds wanted to have a say in their own destinies rather than constantly obey CONFED.
[21:04] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> It's not that Tolwyn didn't follow through. It's that his reach exceeded his grasp. He had an idea of what he wanted, but it would have ended with the majority of Humanity dying in order for a New-and-Improved Homo Superior variant to move forward unimpeded.
[21:05] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> Remember...genetic enhancement program.
[21:06] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> It's sad remembering him. Tolwyn was once one of the Confederation's staunchest defenders who refused to ever compromise his principles. He demanded much from his subordinates, but he demanded MORE from HIMSELF.
[21:07] <Alldrogis Valkyvida> But when the Kilrathi bombed Earth and his ancestral home in England was one of the targets, most of his family died. His nephew, who was a Fleet fighter pilot, was killed in action during the Battle of Terra.
